Why I’ve been calling this monument mysterious throughout the article is because there is no proper information as to who built the baoli, but because of its name, it’s believed to have been built by King Agrasen in the 14th century.

Agrasen ki Baoli Haunted Story 

One thing that draws people the most is the haunted stories revolving around this place. One of the eerie stories is that the black water of the Baoli used to manipulate and invite people to jump in it and commit suicide. 

I honestly get chills every time I recall this story, although there are not many claims and incidents that could prove if the place is truly haunted or not. 

I had a strong surge to witness this deadly black water, but sadly it’s all dried up now, and as a precautionary measure and for several health reasons, the stepwell is kept empty and no longer collects water today. 

Let me ask you, what if you get slapped all of a sudden when there’s no one around you? 

Creepy right!?

But that’s what the locals have experienced here in Agrasen ki Baoli! Not just that, but people have also claimed to hear an eerie whispering in the premises at odd hours.

Agrasen ki Baoli timings are from 9 am to 5:30 pm, after which no one is allowed to enter the premises, but the good thing is that this place is open throughout the week! That means you can visit whenever you’re free! 

The best thing about the place is that there are no charges to enter the monument. I think that’s why PK could live here for so long.

Agrasen ki Baoli has a special connection with Bollywood, although Delhi is such a beautiful and historical place that many Bollywood movies have been shot here. 

Do you remember the initial scenes of the movie PK, where Aamir Khan lived as a homeless? Yes! That beautiful place was Agrasen ki Baoli!

Architecture of Agrasen ki Baoli

The architecture of Agrasen ki Baoli is unique and one of a kind in Delhi. The baoli is 60 meters long and 15 meters wide, with 3 flights of stairs containing a total of 108 steps. 

Each level of the stepwell is lined with arched niches on both sides symmetrically. Although there’s no fixed date as to when this monument was built, keeping in mind the architecture, it was probably built during the Tughlaq or Lodi period. 

Agrasen ki Baoli has three entry doors and also a small, three-sided mosque towards the west.

How to Reach Agrasen Ki Baoli?

The best way to travel around Delhi and NCR (considering the traffic), according to me, is through the metro, but Agrasen ki Baoli is well-connected with the road networks of Delhi. Here are some of the best ways to reach the monument. 

• By Metro: Agrasen ki Baoli nearest metro station is Barakhamba Road on the Blue line and Janpath on the violet line of the Delhi metro map. Barakhamba Road metro station is about 800 meters away and Janpath metro station is about 850 meters away from the baoli. You can easily find an auto or toto to drop you off at your destination. 

• By Bus: The nearest bus stand to Agrasen ki baoli is Max Mueller Bhawan, about a 3-minute walk away. The following transit lines have routes that pass near Agrasen Ki Baoli: 320, 440, 450, 894, and 440A. 

• By Train: The local train of Delhi is also an efficient way to travel. The nearest station to the baoli is Shivaji Bridge, about 13 minutes walk away. The following transit lines have routes that pass near Agrasen Ki Baoli: EMU 64071, EMU 64091, EMU 64011, EMU 64012, and EMU 64013.

Agrasen Ki Baoli Important Information—Are cameras Allowed in Agrasen Ki Baoli?

Here is some important information about the Agrasen ki Baoli that you need to know before visiting. 

• Cameras are allowed inside the premises. Photography is allowed for personal use. For professional photography or filming, prior permission from ASI is required. This includes shooting for commercial purposes or using tripods, large camera setups, etc.
• Visitors are prohibited from accessing certain areas that may be marked restricted for preservation or safety reasons.
• Vandalism or graffiti is strictly prohibited in the monument and punishable by law.
• Climbing on the walls or structures is not allowed.
• The best time to visit the baoli is from October to March, when the weather in Delhi is pleasant. Visit during the morning hours or in the afternoon, since it’ll get crowded in the evening. 
• Religious or ritualistic activities are generally not permitted unless specifically allowed by authorities.
• Pets are generally not allowed inside the premises.

• Limited street parking is available near Hailey Road, where Agrasen Ki Baoli is located. Be mindful of parking signs and regulations to avoid fines.

• Connaught Place (CP) is located close to Agrasen Ki Baoli and offers multiple parking lots, both paid and free. 

• Visitors who prefer using public transport can park their vehicles at Barakhamba Road Metro Station or Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, both of which have paid parking facilities. These stations are a short walk from the baoli.
