The origin of Omisaka is from Misoka which means the last month of the year. There are multiple traditions celebrated during this time in Japan. One of these traditions is to eat soba-noodles on Omisaka, the noodles are made from buckwheat flour. It is also said that people who won’t eat everything on their plate and lefts something from it would be unlucky for the next year in terms of money. While in some regions of Japan, some people eat udon noodles, this is because “un” means luck in Japanese.
