I am so grateful that last year, I was fortunate enough to visit one of the highest jyotirlingas and experience its divine aura and beautiful landscapes. Though the main attraction is the Kedarnath Temple, I did not stop there and visited several other beautiful towns nearby.

These hidden gems offer an otherworldly mix of spirituality, culture, and untouched natural beauty. If you are planning to visit this sacred town in Uttarakhand soon, you should definitely add these places to your itinerary.

In this article, I will tell you about six rich cultural heritages near Kedarnath, which are still deeply followed by the local people and remain widely recognized for their uniqueness.

1. Rambara – The Lost Village

Rambara – The Lost Village

Rambada, is a small village in Ukhimath block of Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand, India. This village lies on the way to Kedarnath and devotees usually stop to eat and rest here, and this is the reason, you’ll find many dhabas and shops at this place.

This small town is located at an altitude of 2,700 meters (8,858) above sea level. You might have seen this place in various news channels in 2013 when it was completely submerged in water due to floods, causing significant damage. Unfortunately, many people even lost their lives in that tragedy.

Many survivors left their homes, and this is one of the reasons why this village is called the Lost Village. After that, the experience of this village did not remain. But the memories of the devotees who stayed here are still at that place, and the travelers who have passed through there pray for their peace.

After this crowd, some new places were built for the travelers to stay, two famous ones are Jungle Chhatti and Lyncholi.

3. Guptkashi – The Mystical Land of Lord Shiva

Guptkashi

Guptkashi is a significant religious spot in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Its rich history and mythology are said to be closely linked to the Mahabharata era.

According to legend, after the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas approached Lord Shiva to atone for their sins.   However, Lord Shiva, wishing to avoid them, left Kashi and arrived in Guptkashi, where he began living in secrecy (“gupt” which means secret in Hindi). This is how this place got its name, Guptkashi. Later, Lord Shiva finally revealed himself and bathed in Kedarnath.
