Heavy rain and low visibility hit Mumbai airport hard on July 8, 2024. At least 50 flights were cancelled or sent to other places like Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Indore.Mumbai airport (CSMIA) told passengers to check their flight status.
They also stopped runway operations for over an hour. Airport staff helped passengers with extra seating and water.CSMIA posted on X (Twitter) telling passengers to check flight status and leave early for the airport.
Airlines like IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, and SpiceJet issued warnings too.IndiGo said flights to and from Mumbai were impacted by weather and air traffic congestion.
They offered refunds or alternate flights. Air India also offered refunds and rescheduling for affected flights. Vistara warned about traffic and slow vehicle movement to the airport.
SpiceJet advised checking flight status and warned about traffic to the airport.Mumbai saw heavy rains since July 7, causing waterlogging in many areas like Worli, Kurla East, and Dadar.
Waterlogged railway tracks also led to train delays and cancellations.
The BMC reported heavy rainfall, with Colaba getting 83.8 mm and Santacruz 267.9 mm in 24 hours. Mumbai received 27% of its annual rainfall during this time.
The IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai and nearby areas until 4 pm on July 8.
