The spot where they created the Lingam turned into a pond, and just then the demon Dushan attacked the Brahmin and his sons. Suddenly Shiva himself rose from the pond and killed Dushan; since then he resides in the form of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. 

• The King Chandrasena: The king of Ujjain was a prominent devotee of Lord Shiva. When he was attacked by his enemies along with the demon Dushan, Lord Shiva appeared and saved the majestic city of Ujjain and its people from going into ruins.
